Hard Mud Soft Threads
Hard Mud Soft Threads
Co-curated by Carrie Burckle and Carolyn LaLiberte
The Loft, San Pedro, CA, 2019
Clay and fiber are materials we can’t help but touch. Hard Mud Soft Threads brings them together as art, not just craft, in work that is elegant, playful, functional, and inspiring. The artists come from across the Los Angeles area and from every stage of their careers, giving the show a wide range of voices.
Soft Threads, curated by Burckle, features nine contemporary textile artists who turn thread and cloth into abstract, figurative, conceptual, and sculptural work. Each knows their material deeply and uses process to express a personal vision. Their materials include felted wool, handmade paper embedded with plants, twined date palm, woven linen and newspaper, acrylic yarn, hand-stitched silk, and painted Tyvek.
